Global NGO Medicins Sans Frontiers on Tuesday criticised plans to roll out home tests for HIV/Aids in South Africa
The University of KwaZulu Natal proposed home kits be distributed in that province.
The so-called “HIV self-test kit” which resembles a home pregnancy test was set to be piloted in Pietermaritzburg early next year but MSF’s Gilles van Cutsmen was opposed to the move.
“I am bit afraid that with home based testing at the moment you do not give the necessary support to people after they have tested,” said van Cutsmen.
